Behind Lecce’s doors
“Behind Lecce’s doors” is the photographic story of four communities, four religions, four prayer places and four ways of understanding life. A story that starts precisely from the doors of Lecce. The Baroque city, by definition and history, has dedicated its most valuable and valued architecture to places of worship. The facades of the churches are almost always more sumptuous than their interior. In the places featured in this reportage, exactly the opposite happens. Essential, small, in some cases inadequate, these spaces are infused with new lifeblood. Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Christians: in Lecce, apart from Catholic churches, prayer rituals bring together hundreds of people and dozens of different nationalities. The photos of this project reveal people who in a new city, in a country far from their own, have founded their mosque in a garage, their gurdwara in an apartment or their church in a room.
